Stale Relationships

Text: Jeramiah 2:1-2
The word of the Lord came to me, saying: Go and proclaim in the hearing of Jerusalem, Thus says the Lord: I remember the devotion of your youth, your love as a bride, how you followed me in the wilderness,  in a land not sown. (NRSV)

Has your relationship with God grown stale?  God remembers how much you were in love with him when you first gave your life to Jesus.  God remembers how excited you were to hear about his love for you even when you were not a very loveable person.  God remembers how he left the 99 and searched for you, found you, carried you back to the sheepfold in his arms.  Do you remember?

Do you remember what life was like before God found you and rescued you?  Do you remember the fear and the hardships?  Do you remember the anxiety that welled up inside of you when the brokenness of this world was on your doorstep?

God desires a fresh relationship with you, not a stale one.  God desires your love and devotion.  God desires a daily conversation with you.  God desires to walk by your side.  God desires to be included in your decision-making process.  God desires to be in your first thoughts of the morning and your last thoughts before you lay your head to rest at night.

Remember the unrestricted, freely given love of God that swept you off your feet and live in that love.  Because God always remembers how much he loves you.

Pray with me:

Loving God, forgive me when I forget how much you have changed my life.  Forgive me when I forget the pain of my past in which I lived before your Son found me and saved me from my sin.  God, bring me back when I begin to stray from our relationship that I might be reminded of the love I have for you.  AMEN.
