This week's devotion comes from Dave Wade. Dave is the President of our United Methodist Men, he is a very active member of our Board of Trustees, and most importantly, he was raised with a deep faith in Jesus Christ. I know you will enjoy this reflection of what this church means to him, and how he found love in many ways right here at the United Methodist Church at Absecon.

Both Ali and I are not from the Absecon or the Galloway area originally. Ali is from Mexico who moved to Galloway with her first husband, I was ordered to this area with the Coast Guard in 2001. I was originally a Jersey kid having been raised in a few towns but claiming Ocean Grove as my hometown. Ali is from Mexico City, Mexico. The probability or odds of us meeting each other most likely was one in a billion. As we started to learn about each other we both had one major thing in common. That thing is the church. We were from different denominations, but we both have a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
I found Absecon Methodist Church very early in my search for a church home. The church was in midst of the building expansion and Rev. Brian Roberts was the pastor. The church itself was very comfortable to me, the music and the organ along with the preaching really set the hook. I felt welcomed and genuinely received by the congregation. When we started to date, and I brought Ali to the church she was impressed and felt very welcomed. There is comfort here and there is purpose too.
We have found ways to serve the Lord and the church. We enjoy the mission outreach programs, teaching bible study, serving on committees and the most importantly why we do them. We do them so others can find Christ Jesus. Hopefully seen in us, our church and by the way we live. We also both have a love for our older friends and neighbors. The church is a place to learn, serve and to minister and at times be ministered to. The sense of community and the purpose of our church is a driving force. We hope to continue with those purposes and hopefully ignite the desire to follow Christ in others.
