How Do We Say Thank You?

Today's devotion comes from Linda Babcock.  Linda has been busy these last couple days writing and videoing things for the church!  Today, as the church Treasurer, she is offering us a reflection on how we can give thanks to God.  Thank you, Linda!

Blessings,
Reverend Dave

How do we say thanks for all God has given us?  We say thanks by remembering those who have gone before us who had the vision of a strong faith community at the corner of Church Street and Pitney Road in Absecon.  We say thanks by living our lives in such a way that God receives the glory.  We say thanks by remembering all the chances we have to worship, participate and serve:  Sunday School, youth group, Bible studies, praise team, choirs, Senior Center, Faithful Fingers, Faithful Friday outreach to school children, mission outreach, prayer team, and so many, many volunteers who serve behind the scenes in all kinds of big and small ways.

We say thanks by being generous so God can do extraordinary things through our congregation.

One of things that encouraged me so much during the 2020 pandemic was the amazing generosity of our congregation members who donated snacks which were given to local elementary teachers, nursing home workers, police officers, fire fighters and EMTs.  We had so many snacks donated that we were able to go far beyond the original idea of honoring the hardworking school teachers, to include other heroes from the community.  The impact of a bag of chips, a granola bar, some crackers or a piece of chocolate went a long way to let people know that we deeply appreciated their truly heroic work of caring for our children and elders and keeping all of us safe in our homes and communities.  In 2021, let’s sow more seeds of kindness and appreciation by doing this snack give-away again!

“There is no end to what God can accomplish anywhere in the world when our 'seeds have wings;' when we are willing to let our prayer, intentions, plans, efforts and work be lifted by the Spirit to places far away; when our generosity moves beyond ourselves.”  Luke 8:5

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for the opportunity to sow the seeds that you have provided to us.  Fill us with gratitude for the privilege of using what belongs to you.  Allow these seeds planted here to have wings and soar beyond our sight.  We know that there is no end to what you can accomplish when we sow our “seeds with wings.”  Help us to understand that when we devote our lives to the glory of God and the purposes of Christ, our existence on this earth will leave eternal marks.  Amen.
