Text: Luke 15:18
I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; (NRSV)
They say that confession is good for the soul. It would probably be better for the soul if we didn’t need to confess at all but, God has made a way to restore relationships with him and with one another and it all begins with confession.
When we have come to our senses and realized that the way we are living has caused damage to us and to our loved ones, it is time to humble oneself and confess that we acknowledge our miss steps, or our outright bold transgressions that have caused the damage.
Until we take responsibility for what has gone wrong and confess it to the one or the ones we have hurt, including God, we will never be on the path to recovery; we will never be able to live with true peace within ourselves. And perhaps that is exactly where the saying, “confession is good for your soul” comes from.
Pray with me:
God of love and God of reconciliation forgive me when I have acted as one who is not your child. I know that I have sinned against heaven and before you. Give me the peace that comes from recognizing my responsibility and bringing my brokenness before you as I receive your forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ. AMEN.
